Stay Safe When Traveling Alone

Preparation: Before your trip, familiarize yourself with your destination, local traditions, laws and potential safety hazards.


Share your Itinerary: Share your travel plans with someone you trust.

Include information about your lodging, transport and scheduled

activities.


Keep in Contact: Stay in regular contact with friends or family during your trip.

Keep them updated about your location and any changes to your itinerary.


Choose Safe Accommodation: Opt for accommodations that have positive reviews and are located in secure neighborhoods. Steer clear of areas that are secluded or poorly lit.


Stay Alert: Always be conscious of your environment. Trust your gut feeling and steer clear of situations that make you feel unsafe.


Reliable Transportation: Use safe transportation services, like licensed taxis or rideshare apps. Try to avoid solo travel late at night.


Self-Defense Basics: Enroll in a self-defense course for women before your trip to learn basic self-protection skills.


Stay Informed: Keep updated on current events and any safety warnings for your destination. Register with your embassy or consulate for help in emergencies.


Secure Your Belongings: Only carry necessary items and ensure your possessions are safe at all times. Consider a money belt or concealed pouch for important

papers and money.


Laura Frombach was introduced to technology in the U.S. Army working on Pershing nuclear missiles. Having spent much of her career as a technologist and engineer with IBM, HP, FedEx, Coca Cola Enterprises, Lenovo and others. A

turning point in Laura’s life was the ‘aha’ moment when she correlated her mother’s mental illness to domestic violence. She advocates for local domestic violence shelters. Laura was one of the featured speakers at the TEDx Eustis

conference and speaks on women’s safety. She is the co-author of Street Smart Safety for Women: Your Guide to Defensive Living.


Joy Farrow is a retired Deputy Sheriff with twenty-eight years of experience. She worked road patrol in Pompano Beach, FL, and faced every situation imaginable. After the 9/11 tragedy, Joy transferred to the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Int’l Airport with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to focus on the safety of air travelers. In 2017, Joy assisted with the aftermath of the mass shooting at the Airport. She has received numerous letters of commendations & several lifesaving awards. Joy was one of the featured speakers at the TEDx Eustis conference and speaks on women’s safety. She is the co-author of Street Smart Safety for Women: Your Guide to Defensive Living.
