the menopause issue
While planning this issue, we were overwhelmed by the number of products being marketed for menopause. From personal care devices, lotions and lubes to supplements, teas and more, we tested a ton of items to sort through the promise with the practical. We are excited to bring you a collection of products that impressed us and hopefully you!
Using traditional Chinese herbs, Herbalogic's Flashback formula is designed for instant relief, which is really the only relief that matters when you're on fire.
Hot Flash supplements from Wile are 100% plant-based and formulated to reduce the frequency, length and severity of hot flash symptoms and night sweats. We didn't see them disappear completely, but noticed them a whole lot less – and that's worth a lot.
Clinical research has shown that wearing the Embr Wave wristband gives immediate relief from hot flashes and improves sleep and that was our experience as well. It helped us stay cool at night which means we stayed asleep and that made us very, very happy.
Minimize overnight hair loss with a silk pillowcase like this one from Celestial Silk. Our hair woke up happier than ever.
Not only did we notice new hair growth around our temples, but this serum actually smells good too unlike others we tested.
A hairdryer that's not terrible for your hair? It's not too good to be true – The Zuvi Halo dries the surface of hair, protecting hair moisture within the hair shaft. We love ours and it's light enough to take on overnight trips!
Replace decreasing Collagen with these 6,000 mg supplements from YouTheory. One of our tester's swears her over powder dipped nails have never been stronger.
Bit of a baby with pills or just like a sugar rush? These gummies from TruBiotics taste like candy not medicine and support skin, hair and nail health.
Unfortunately itching happens everywhere. This soothing plant-based cream from Rosebud Woman is made for the most sensitive areas.
We put lube to the test and Honey Pot's came out – ha, ha – on top. Sweet tasting and not sticky, it was perfect for a spicy night in.
JoyLux takes the effort out of increasing your pelvic floor's health using red light therapy. Get stronger without surgery or constant kegels! Finally!

What Fresh Hell Is This? Perimenopause, Menopause, Other Indignities, and You
Heather Corinna
In this relatable, easy to read book Corinna tells us what to expect, and offers realistic, affordable self-care tips. Like a supportive friend, Corinna explains, they are not here to fix us, just make us less miserable. They have received praise for making the literature on perimenopause and menopause inclusive to those who have been far too long left out of the conversation.
The Change
Kirsten Miller
Set in an oceanfront town in Long Island, NY, three women discover that menopause - among other mysterious “gifts” - gives them super powers. They join together to solve a murder, and uncover much more. Fantasy, feminist and thriller, The Change, challenges social norms and reminds us of the power of female friendship.
How Hard Can It Be?
Allison Pearson
How Hard Can It Be? is a coming of age story about turning 50. In a style reminiscent of Bridget Jones, Pearson writes with humor and insight. We join our heroine Kate as she battles through menopause, re-enters the work-force in a male dominated industry to support her husband’s unique mid-life crises, and balances the pressures of being a woman in the “sandwich generation” – raising teens and caring for aging parents. And yes, there is a love story too. For authenticity (or if you are a sucker for a British accent), this is highly enjoyable as an audio book.
The Madwoman in the Volvo: My Year of Raging Hormones Sandra Tsing Loh
The Madwoman in the Volvo is a candid, brave and humorous look at what it is to be a menopausal middle-aged mother. Loh is at once relatable in dealing with balancing daily life and exotic (an affair at Burning Man that implodes her life). We join her on a tumultuous journey through “the change” that while uncomfortable at times, is ultimately uplifting (and very funny).
