12 Trends We're Officially Bringing Back This Year (Don't Say We Didn't Warn You)

Look, we all thought we were trendsetters back in the day. Our fashion choices? Impeccable. Our accessories? Next level. Our cultural references? Untouchable. And yet, somehow, when we look back, we have to wonder... what were we thinking?

That’s why, this year, we’re going all in. It’s time to reclaim our former glory and revive the trends that once defined our closets, our playlists, and our personalities. Yes, we’re serious. (Kind of.)

Here are 12 things we were absolutely convinced were cool—and this year, we’re bringing them BACK.

1. The Rachel Haircut

The Rachel haircut, an iconic haircut in the late 90s.

We marched into every salon clutching a magazine photo of Jennifer Aniston and demanded "The Rachel." What we got? A choppy, layered mess that required hours of styling. But you know what? It’s time. Volume is in. Chaos is in. Let’s Rachel our way into 2024.

2. Chain Wallets

90s chain wallets

Nothing said I’m a total badass like a wallet attached to your pants via a metal chain. Why did we ever stop? Perfect for concerts, travel, and confusing your children (For those wondering, yes, you can still buy them).

3. Overly Plucked Eyebrows

Drew Barrymore with overly plucked 1990s eyebrows.

Natural brows? Please. Bring back the tweezer frenzy. It’s time to commit to the thin brow again—just don’t cry when they don’t grow back.

4. Sun-In & DIY Highlights

Who needs a professional colorist when you’ve got a bottle of Sun-In and a sunny afternoon? Expect uneven streaks, slight tangerine undertones, and a whole lot of nostalgia.

5. Frosted Tips

Lancee Bass, Mark McGrath and the kid who played Reece on Malcolm in the Middle all showcasing frosted tips, a 1990s/2000s hair do for men.

The male equivalent of DIY highlights. If you weren’t rocking frosted tips like a rejected boy band member or Pacey from Dawson's Creek, were you even cool?

6. Wearing Two Tank Tops at Once

Ashley Tisdale rocking the early 2000s layered tank top look.

Layered tanks with contrasting straps. It was the fashion mullet of our youth. Business on top, chaos underneath. Let’s bring back the 4-strap minimum.

7. Velour Tracksuits

Juicy Couture had us in a chokehold. We strutted around in plush, matching tracksuits like we were starring in The Simple Life. And honestly? We kind of still want to. Thankfully you can find a 2025 version at TJ Maxx. What would we do without it?

8. Collecting Beanie Babies Like a Retirement Plan

We swore we’d be millionaires. We memorized tag errors, stored them in plastic cases, and never removed the heart-shaped tag. Well, retirement is closer than ever, so it might be time to start hoarding again.

9. Wearing Dresses Over Jeans

Miley Cyrus, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba all rocking dresses over jeans, a very popular early 200s style.

No one questioned this. Not once. Was it a dress? Was it pants? Who knows. Who cares. All that matters is that we made it fashion.

10. Chunky Belts Over EVERYTHING

Over tunics, dresses, even over other shirts. If it was thick, wide, and had an unnecessary buckle, we wore it with pride. Waist definition? Optional. Drama? Required.

11. Bedazzled Everything

Bedazzled flip phones.

Our flip phones? Covered in rhinestones. Our denim jackets? Encrusted in gems. If it didn’t sparkle under mall lighting, it wasn’t worth wearing.

12. Myspace Profile Songs

Your top eight mattered, but your profile song was your entire personality. We propose Spotify adds auto-play to your profile. Just imagine someone visiting your page and hearing Nickelback. Perfection.

Sike!

Okay okay, so maybe we’re not actually starting a movement to bring back over-plucked eyebrows or chain wallets (please no). But if you’re anything like us, these trends live rent-free in your memories—whether you’re cringing, laughing, or low-key still rocking your velour tracksuit on laundry day.

Happy April Fools. Stay fabulous, stay funny, and for the love of all things bedazzled, leave the Sun-In in the past.
